Translation: As they say, “three times makes a trend”. Im not 100% sure who originally said this, but its one of the golden rules of the fashion world. And on the third day of the spring 2018 New York Fashion Week, we just saw it applied to our first official makeup trend of the season: rounded winged liner. I thought Lady Gagas rounded wings for her Joanne World Tour and the glittery looks on Tom Fords runway earlier this week were a coincidence. However, the eye makeup created for Jason Wus show today just cemented rounded wings as a true trend. Earlier this week, I noticed that the rounded winged liner is similar to the low-key version of cat eyes, as it requires less skill and precision. Well, the look had even less maintenance at Jason Wu. It still has that graphic vibe, but “it should look like it was done with one finger,” says Yadim, the head makeup artist for the show. To create his take on the rounded line trend, Yadim chose the Maybelline New York City Mini palette in Urban Jungle. Theres a nearly black, full-color military shade. Thats right, this liner doesnt even need a liner. Instead, Yadim used a rounded brush for the eyeshadow and saturated it in pigment before stamping it on the outer corner of the models lids. Thats it. Its that simple. Yadim paired the look with strobed skin and faux freckles drawn on with a brow pencil. Jason Lloyd-Evans I thought Tom Ford was as easy as it gets, but its surprisingly structured compared to Jason Wus rounded line. Theres no drawing on shapes. You just need the right rounded brush or even the tip of your finger. Additional reporting by Kat Suico.
